The online version of download ACDSee Photo Studio 8 is as dead as its desktop counterpart. Some of the software features expected, such as a new RAW format, are missing. A lot of the buttons look like Mac buttons, and all the functions you can do online are also possible offline, as the Mac app already offers most of that. download ACDSee does offer a few improvements, like a new interface for the RAW formats, and capabilities like face-matching, geotagging, and color adjustment all in the online version. However, this version cannot be compared to Lightroom, for example, because its missing most of the features Lightroom and other RAW editors offer.

The RAW processing part of the software is great, offering a lot of power to quickly make the most of a RAW image. Unfortunately, the RAW formats are missing or barely supportable. While there is no import for RAW formats yet, download ACDSee has many of the features for importing the legacy RAW formats from Olympus and other camera brands. RAW formats are not supported on the Mac version of the software, however. download ACDSee has a solution for all that, though: The RAW images can be imported to a desktop editor like Lightroom or to a program that offers a similar editing experience, like Nikon Capture NX. This could be considered a little overkill as many of the features Lightroom offers are covered as well.

ACDSee offers color-corrections for image pixels like brightness, contrast, and color temperature in 16 colour-temperature categories. It has a tone map feature, allowing users to create special effects. It can be used to create mono-toned black-and-white photos, as well as colour-reversal. Finally, its also able to apply selective colour changes and its own filters to images. download ACDSee Photo Studio also works with a wide range of file formats and offer many view-options.

With download ACDSee 6.2, download ACDSee has added tools for tidying up individual image files, like cropping, adjusting white balance, converting colors, and correcting red-eye in individual photos. While the software can now do all of these tasks in bulk, you must still use the File menu to perform most of them, as in prior versions. For example, if you want to work on an entire image folder, you can select All Files, click Tools, and then select Crop. But to select one or more photos to crop, you must use the menu or use the crop tools yourself. This isn’t as convenient as what you’ll find in Photoshop, but it’s still a step ahead of most consumer-level apps.

ACDSee 17 is stable in terms of stability and features. Even so, it feels a bit crowded compared to previous releases; the new Advanced Menus and a keyboard shortcut to click-to-zoom feature, for example, push some of the more useful tools deeper into the interface. There’s also the new Artwork Save feature that lets you keep a version of an image, letting you return to it as well as store it.

If you need to scan a bunch of documents, download ACDSee supports indexing so that you can search for a specific word by simply typing its text and pressing Enter. In fact, you can even add a custom word for searching, along with a list of words to exclude. This lets you, for example, search for a specific word in a picture without having to type it out manually. It does not require a Windows Live ID account, however, so you need to set a password yourself. Also missing is a Back to Photoshop option, which would have allowed you to compare a scanned document to its previous version, if you hadn’t “saved” that version.

ACDSee also has better software integration. You can launch Photoshop by clicking the download ACDSee icon in the taskbar, for example, just like you can open the program by double-clicking on its icon in the file manager. Other items, such as the file manager and the printer, are indeed easier to open through a program’s interface rather than having to pull up a folder or open a printer dialog box.

For a $20 program, I think download ACDSee 17 is a great value. It isn’t as feature-rich as other paid programs, but the core functions are pretty much everything you’ll need, and it’s really user-friendly. It might be worth a look for a starter scanning program. I also tested download ACDSee 16, and it also did a decent job. While it lacks some great features, I just couldn’t upgrade. That said, if you’re in a pinch and need a program that works well, it’s a nice alternative.

The software is a photo editor, video editor, and convertor all in one application. Photo Studio has 15th programs that allow you to perform all of those functions. When you open it, you will see it as it looks as a presentation program, or what you see when you open a photo in Photoshop or an Aperture project. The problems start when you try to see what each tab is for and you will see that some of the tabs aren’t labelled quite the way you expect. When you click on them and then try to use the tools, you don’t get a window full of controls, but a preview area instead. But there is a wide range of other programs that are under the umbrella of the application, which you can download. This means that there are 15th programs included in the software. That is a lot of ways to edit a photo. Included with these are a batch processor, splitters, converters, and editors.

ACDSee Photo Studio Pro and Ultimate are more suited for professional photographers, however all four apps offer the ability to edit your photos on the fly, allowing you to get an instant result without having to wait for processing. The software is used by other software developers and by Photoshop plugins as well. download ACDSee Ultra 2020 is available for Windows PC and MAC and includes all the features of Photo Studio 2020, but with extra features such as support for 4K video, Time Lapse, and the creation of video as well as still images.
