Another issue that I have with ACDSee is the lack of ability to preview images when you open a folder. In its place are two icons. One is a balloon with a red X that will let you know it cant open images, and the other is an info icon that will tell you the image count and file name, but not the image’s meta data. If you want to preview the images within the folder you need to open it first.

The Find feature of ACDSee Ultimate 2022 has two options. You can select a Folder or a Folder and File in File Explorer to use as a search target or restrict the search to one and only one type of file. In this case, I recommend the Folder or Folder and File in File Explorer. As I mentioned earlier, the search result will be shown in a dialog box that will likely grow over time with the number of files it finds. With the New folder search window added to the Find window, the search will open up a preview of the selected folder where you can preview the images in it.

The library includes thumbnails of images and videos and in addition to the old vector view we also have the old and new slideshows. Also new is the ability to organize all media into playlists. The Playlist dialog can contain up to five playlists which can be arranged in tabs at the bottom. Each playlist can be organized based on either play time or audio file or folders.

There is a lot of little stuff here that weve not seen before. For example, when you first open an image in Edit mode in ACDSee Ultimate you can click in the photo to reveal a magnifying glass icon. This lets you quickly zoom in to a particular part of the image. You can also drag a corner of the photo to reveal the magnifying glass as well as rotate the image so that the right edge of the image is the upper left.

ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2022 includes comprehensive adjustments for high-quality retouching. Its active correction tools include undistortion, straightening, crop, red-eye removal, and lens correction. The program includes AI face recognition with name suggestion and includes features that make mass editing fast and easy. The Active Retouch tool also includes depth mapping for skin beautification. It also includes panoramic, 360-degree, and spherical view modes and features professional-grade image stitching and high-quality output. While it was good to see a Face Allergies label that removed red-eye from eyes, it wasn’t in the set of eye tools.

The program offers powerful automatic correction tools. The Artificial Eyes tool locates the pupil automatically, and the Perspective Straightener tool corrects pincushion and barrel distortion when it’s present, based on the camera model.

I could watch you guys do your job with the program. In fact, I’d bet on you! It’s really not that hard. Take a shot and it’s already in Lightroom. Drag and drop it onto ACDSee Photo Studio. Voila!

While you can fine tune each feature to your preference, there are some limitations. The correction range is what it says: 1% to 5% over the photo’s smallest dimension. The Active Retouch tool works from 5% to 20%. You have to use the advanced sliders to tweak exposure and other sharpening features. There’s no Undo or Redo, so have a backup! The Light Table feature is pretty basic, without any visual feedback. You’ll get an onscreen check to see if it’s correctly aligned, but you won’t see any of the alignment controls. It did produce decent results, but I think there could be some improvements.

ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate is a $99.95 basic photo-manipulation program that first launched in 2007. ACDSee launched a paid “Pro” version in 2012; it includes 50GB of cloud storage. Though it’s slow and buggy, it allows ACDSee to capture FlashFX’s enhancements to photos.

Premium Photo Studio used to be the only editing program that supported HDR photography. In the new version, ACDSee continues to support HDR but no longer supports the Canon version. One of ACDSee’s two HDR color modes (sRGB or Adobe) is now gone, along with the option to use the filter mask. It’s missing the Expert Mode, which lets you add, and edit, multiple people in one shot. It also has a few new tools, like the Filmstrip, Hi-res Photo Slideshow, Tag and Comment, Video Composer, and an on-the-fly Black & White converter.

If you are scanning, it also has other options for importing images into ACDSee to create a slideshow later. Theres also a web service option that allows you to let ACDSee connect to an FTP server and get the photos there for processing. Finally, there is an option to automatically reconnect to the photos after they are saved. You can also preview any image or video online. Theres even an option for viewing the images from a photo album, and there is a button to import the album into ACDSee. There are also options for exporting the images into JPEG, TIFF, a selection of RAW photo formats, GIF, GIFv, PSD, PSDv, PDF, and TXT files. There are also a few other photo formats you can export into, as well as other file formats like DNG, WP, and MOV. I tested this, and found it to work pretty well.

Workspaces – It has a set of different workspaces which let you organize your photos in folders and groups. I couldnt get all of them working, but I could get most of them to work. Theres folders for: Albums, Collections, Clips, Slideshows, and Flickr. The options for organizing collections are fairly extensive and allow you to assign names, dates, and other information. Each collection can also have notes attached to it, which you can browse. In the Albums workspace, you can view and organize your photos.
