Like other programs with such a wealth of options, PowerDirector didn’t display every setting it would make. Unlike any of the other editors, however, you can still access the individual color-wheel adjustments by going to the Edit menu and selecting Color Range. Anyone who edits video in the Mac is used to syncing audio and video. I have no problem with that, since I do it all the time. However, in PowerDirector, you have to start the recording process; then you can add or remove clips by marking them with the pencil icon in the Timeline Editor or Color Range panel. When you edit a clip, a preview and edit window are updated to the new clip information. Smart Trim Pro is a tool that can now be selected in the Tools dropdown menu above the timeline. It automatically detects where the edit began and updated the preview to reflect that, so you can get the best idea of what happened and where to proceed. You can drag to move the point, and you can get a variety of box options to select clips that PowerDirector knows are trimmed and how much to trim. You don’t get any color-coding or prior knowledge, but it’s a good idea to at least know what things are trimmed.

3D templates. ColorDirector lets you swap back and forth between black-and-white and color templates, and you can also swap between 3D and 2D templates. They don’t seem to be the same as the 2D templates that appear in CyberLink PhotoDirector, but whatever they are, it’s nice to have options.

The main program provides a bit more control over how the poster is displayed, such as whether it is centered or just scaled. The effect is subtle, and it’s the main difference between CyberLink’s poster editor and Adobe Premiere Pro’s poster tool. That’s because Adobe can’t be accused of being a poor PowerDirector user, and it’s easy to learn how to use the tool.

CyberLink also has a brand-new tool called Moment. This is a video editor for photo sequences using speed, color, and motion content. Simply drag and drop your photos from the desktop into the window and it displays with a black outline and thumbnail. You can then choose the filters/effects on top that you like to apply, like the program’s Color Picker, Enhance, and Clarity presets, or you can customize your effects.
